SOLUTIONS

Given :-

1) The sale price S (in dollars) of an item is given by the formula S=L−rL, where L is the list price (in dollars) and r is the discount rate (in decimal form).

2. The list price of the shirt is $30. What is the discount rate ?

Solution a):- Solve the formula for r .

Given that,

→ S = L - rL

→ rL = L - S

Dividing both sides by L

→ r = (L - S)/L

→ r = (L/L) - (S/L)

Answer → r = 1 - (S/L)

Solution b) :- The list price of the shirt is $30. What is the discount rate ?

Given that,

→ L = $30 .

So,

→ r = 1 - (S/L)

Answer → r = 1 - (S/30)
