You have to add the following fractions:

(16)/(1)+4(2)/(3)

First step is to write 4 2/3 as a fraction:

\begin{gathered} 4=(3\cdot4)/(3)=(12)/(3) \\ (12)/(3)+(2)/(3)=(12+2)/(3)=(14)/(3) \end{gathered}

Next express 16/1 is the same as saying 16 whole numbers. T oexpress it as a fraction with the same denominator (thirds) multiply it by 3/3:

16\cdot(3)/(3)=(16\cdot3)/(3)=(48)/(3)

Next add both equation:

(48)/(3)+(14)/(3)=(62)/(3)
