We will solve as follows! :

p^2+3p-34=6\Rightarrow p^2+3p-40=0

Now, we replace in the quadratic formula:

p=\frac{-(3)\pm\sqrt[]{3^2-4(1)(-40)}}{2(1)}\Rightarrow\begin{cases}p=5 \\ p=-8\end{cases}

So, the solutions are p = 5 and p = -8.
