Let x be the number of bottles of paint

Since she bought 8 more canvases than bottles of paint

Then;

Let (x+8) be the number of canvases she bought

The cost of each bottle of paint is $1.29

The cost of each canvases is $1.89

The total pretax cost is $37.38

To find the number of bottles of paint and canvases, we will use the equation below;

(each cost of bottle of paint)(no.of bottle of paint) + (each cost of canvases)(no.of canvases) = total pretax cost

Representing the above in an equation;

$1.29(x) + $1.89(x+8) = $37.38

Then, we will go ahead and solve for x

open the parenthesis

$1.29x + $1.89x + $15.12 = $37.38

$3.18x + $15.12 = $37.38

subtract $15.12 from both-side of the equation

$3.18x = $37.38 - $15.12

$3.18x = $22.26

divide both-side of the equation by $3.18

x= $22.26/$3.18

x=7

Bottles of paint = 7

Bottles of canvass = x+8 = 7+8 =15

The correct option is A. 7 bottles of paint and 15 canvases
