We are given the following division problem.

1.2*10^(-5)/4

Which can be re-written as

\begin{gathered} 1.2*10^(-5)/4 \\ 12*10^(-6)/4 \end{gathered}

We basically moved the decimal point to the right one time so -1 added to the power.

Now it is easier to perform the division

We know that 12 divided by 4 is equal to 3

So, the quotient is

12*10^(-6)/4=3*10^(-6)

Therefore, the quotient in the scientific notation is

3*10^(-6)
