When plant cells are enclosed with salt water, the water inside the plant moves from where there is more water or less salt through the cell wall and membrane to the exterior where there is less water or more salt. The water inside the plant cells will diffuse by osmosis out of the cells in order to cut down the concentrationof salt solution. The plant cell will undergo plasmolysis which is a typical response when exposed to a hyperosmotic stress. During plasmolysis, the cell membrane pulls away from the cell wall.
