200 km/h

1) Gathering the data

Car 1: x

Car 2: x-16

time: 2 hours

2) Considering the formula that relates to Speed, Time, and Displacement, we can write assuming their speeds are at a constant rate.

• The speed of Car 1 and Car 2 can be added so that we can plug them into that formula.

,

• We can then write and cross multiply those ratios.

\begin{gathered} V=(\Delta s)/(\Delta t) \\ x\text{ +x-16 =}(400)/(2) \\ 2x-16\text{ =}(400)/(2) \\ 2(2x\text{ -16)=400} \\ 4x-32=400 \\ 4x=432 \\ x=216 \end{gathered}

3) Hence, the slower car is at 216 -16 = 200 km/h
