We've been given the length of the rug to be 8ft;

Also, the width of the rug is given as 5ft;

To find the area of the rug, we have to multiply the length of rug by the width;

\begin{gathered} \text{Area of the rug = length of the rug x width of the rug} \\ \text{ = 8 x 5} \\ \text{ = 40ft}^2 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the area of the rug is 40ft^2 (square feet).
