Neurons or brain cells are the structural and functional units of the nervous system. The parts of a neuron consist of a cell body, dendrites, and axon. Neurons functions as transmitters of nerve impulses to other cells. There are three types of neurons namely sensory neurons, motor neurons, and interneurons. Sensory neurons are responsible for carrying nerve impulses from tissues and organs to the spinal cord and brain. While the motor neurons are the ones that carry nerve impulses from the brain and spinal cord to muscles and glands. The last one, the interneurons functions as the carrier of nerve impulses back and forth between sensory and motor neurons.
