The Pythagorean theorem states that, if c is the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle and a and b the lengths of its legs, then


c^2=a^2+b^2

Making this an equation for b, which is the side we're interested in, we get:


b^2=c^2-a^2

Using the values we were given:


b^2=30^2-18^2=900-324=576

Taking the square root of both sides:


b=\sqrt[]{576}=24

And so, the correct answer is the first option.
