We have to identify the x-axis and y-axis for this relation.

We can consider the x-axis to represent the independent variable.

In this case, any of the two, length and mass, can be considered the independent variable, but we can consider the easier dimension to measure, in this case the length, to be the independentent variable.

Then, we will have:

x-axis: length of the rope.

y-axis: mass of the rope.

We can graph this as:

With Excel we ca add a trend line for the points given:

We can use this relation, given by the equation, to find y for x = 1.25:

\begin{gathered} y=0.3412\cdot x+0.1681 \\ y=0.3412(1.25)+0.1681 \\ y=0.4265+0.1681 \\ y=0.5946 \end{gathered}

Answer:

The x-axis can represent the length of the rope.

The y-axis then will represent the mass of the rope.

Using the trend line to find y for x = 1.25 we obtained y = 0.5946.
