3. The equation y = 0.001x + 0.10 can be used to determine the approximate profit, y in dollars,of producing x items. (5 points)a) Solve for x in terms of y.b) How many items must be produced so the profit will be at least $398?

Part A.

y = 0.001x + 0.10

y - 0.10 = 0.001x (Subtracting 0.10 from both sides of the equation)

(y - 0.10)/0.001= x (Dividing on both sides of the equation)

The answer of part A is:

(y-0.10)/(0.001)=x

Part B.

Replacing y=398 and solving for x, we have:

\begin{gathered} (398-0.1)/(0.001)=x\text{ (Using the equation of the part A)} \\ (397.9)/(0.001)=x\text{ (Subtracting)} \\ 397900=x\text{ (Dividing)} \end{gathered}

The answer is 397900 items must be produced so the profit will be at least $398.
