4 f - 3 + 2 g - (- 4g + 2) is to be reduced

notice that the negative sign in front of the parenthesis implies a change of sign in all terms inside the parenthesis. Therefore, as we remove this paranthesis to be able to combine terms, we change the signs as shown below:

4 f - 3 + 2 g + 4 g - 2

now we combine like terms:

4 f - 5 + 6 g

where we combined -3 with -2, and also 2 g with 4 g

The result is 4 f - 5 + 6 g

please see if it appears among your answer options. The terms may be in another order, since the order of the terms doesn't change the resulting expression.
