ANSWERS

1. 40 + 2m = 100

2. 30

Step-by-step explanation

1. We know that you earn 2 advantage points for every movie you watch. Thus, if you watch m movies, you will get 2m advantage points.

Until now, you have 40 points and you need to have 100 points to earn a free movie pass, The sum of the 2m points from watching m movies and the 40 points you already have must be 100,

40+2m=100

2. To solve this equation, first, we have to subtract 40 from both sides of the equation,

\begin{gathered} 40-40+2m=100-40 \\ 2m=60 \end{gathered}

And then, divide both sides by 2,

\begin{gathered} (2m)/(2)=(60)/(2) \\ m=30 \end{gathered}

Hence, to earn the free movie pass, you will have to watch 30 movies.
