The board measures 12 meters in total, and the statement says that it must be cut in two parts and that one part is 5 times longer than the other, so to solve this, we will have that x is the measure of one part and 5x the measure of the longer part, but added together we know that they measure 12.

12=x+5x

Now, for x:

\begin{gathered} 12m=6x \\ x=(12m)/(6)=2m \end{gathered}

So one piece measures 2m and the longest piece measures 10m, now we will convert the measurement to yards:

10m*(1.094yards)/(1m)=10.94yards
