The average rate (or velocity) is:


\text{average rate = }\frac{dis\tan ce}{\text{time}}_{}

In this case the distance=20miles and time=4hours, so:


\text{average rate =}\frac{20\text{ miles}}{4hours}=5(miles)/(hours)
