We are asked to stack 84 boxes in a two layers display:

the number of boxes is:

V=l* w* h

Since we need two layers, this means that h =2:

V=l* w*2

Since the number of boxes is 84, we replace V = 84:

84=l* w*2

We divide by 2 and we get:

\begin{gathered} (84)/(2)=l* w \\ 42=l* w \end{gathered}

There must be 42 boxes in the length and width directions.

We can use 7 boxes in the length directions and since each box has a side of the total length would be:

L=2in*7=14in

And we can use 6 boxes in the width direction and the width would be:

W=2in*6=12in

Therefore, the display is:

\begin{gathered} l=7\text{boxes} \\ w=6\text{boxes} \\ h=2\text{boxes} \end{gathered}
