Let us write out the formula for the circumference of a circle,

\begin{gathered} \text{Circumference of a circle=}\pi D \\ \text{where D is the Diameter} \end{gathered}

Let us write out the given data,

\begin{gathered} \text{Diameter}=\text{?} \\ \text{Circumference of a circle=}\pi\text{ in} \end{gathered}

Let us now solve for the diameter,

\begin{gathered} Circumference=\pi D \\ \pi=\pi D \\ \text{Divide both sides by }\pi \\ (\pi)/(\pi)=(\pi D)/(\pi) \\ 1=D \end{gathered}

Hence, the diameter of the circle is 1 in.
