SWe have that:

The height of the helicopter is the opposite side of the triangle formed.

How far off the coast to the helicopter is the adjacent side.

Therefore:

tan48=(opposite)/(adjacent)

Where:

opposite = 1250 ft

adjacent = d

Substitute the values:

\tan48=(1250)/(d)

Solve for d:

d=(1250)/(\tan48)=1125.51

Round to the nearest whole number 1126

Answer: d = 1126 ft
