Area = 100 cm5a. The cost to print Mary's 3-inch by 4-inch photo is $0.80. Assuming that the cost per squarench of photo is constant, how much will it cost to enlarge the photo by a linear scale factor of5a. cost of enlarged photo=Unbeknownst to her, Mary's mother also ordered an enlargement of the same original phi's mothers' photo enlargement cost $12.86. Solution:

Dimension of Mary's original photo = 3-inch by 4-inch

Area of this photo = 3 x 4 = 12 square inch

Cost for printing this photo = $0.80

5a.

The photo was enlarged by a linear factor of 5.

New Dimension of the enlargement = (3 x 5) inch by (4 x 5) inch = 15 by 20 inch

Area of the enlargement = 15 x 20 = 300 square inch

Thus, cost of enlarged photo =

(300)/(12)\text{ x \$0.8 = \$20}

Cost of enlarged photo = $20

5b.

Given that cost of Mary's mother enlarged photo = $12.86

Factor\text{ by whcih the area has been increased = }(12.86)/(0.8)\text{ = 16.075}
Linear\text{ factor of enlargement = }\sqrt{16.075\text{ }}=\text{ 4.009 = 4}
\begin{gathered} The\text{ new dimension of Mary's mother photo = 3in x 4 by 4in x 4 } \\ =\text{ 12in by 16 in} \end{gathered}
