As a first step to find the equation of the line, we must calculate the slope of the line:

\begin{gathered} m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1) \\ m=(-1-5)/(4-(-4))=-(6)/(8)=-(3)/(4) \end{gathered}

Then by the slope-point form of a line, we can find the equation:

\begin{gathered} y-y_0=m(x-x_0) \\ y-5=-(3)/(4)(x+4) \\ y-5=-(3)/(4)x-3 \\ y=-(3)/(4)x-3+5 \\ y=-(3)/(4)x+2 \end{gathered}
