Robert is baking a cake.

The recipe calls for more than 7 cups of sugar.

He has already added 2 cups.

Let x represent the number of more cups to be added.

Then the sum of x and 2 cups must be greater than 7 cups of sugar.

Mathematically,

x+2>7

We can solve the above inequality for x

Subtract 2 from both sides of the inequality

\begin{gathered} x+2-2>7-2 \\ x>5 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the solution of the inequality is x greater than 5.

This means that we need more than 5 cups of sugar for the recipe.
