Given:


\begin{gathered} Cookies\text{ to share}=5 \\ Friends\text{ to share}=4 \end{gathered}

To share the cookies equally, we divide the number of cookies by the number of friends.

Hence,


\begin{gathered} Each\text{ friend will receive}=(5)/(4)\text{ cookies} \\ =1(1)/(4)cookies \\ =1.25cookies \end{gathered}

Therefore, each friend will receive 1.25 cookies
