Remember the following property of exponents:

(a^n)^m=a^(n* m)

On the other hand, 12 = 3x4, then:

x^(12)=x^(3*4)=(x^3)^4

Since y=x^3, then:

(x^3)^4=y^4

Therefore:

\begin{gathered} y=x^3 \\ \Rightarrow x^(12)=y^4 \end{gathered}
