A scientist is exploring a prediction. Her prediction states: plants take in carbon dioxide from the air, and then release the same amount of carbon dioxide back into the air. She performs an experiment to test this prediction. After doing so, she realizes the prediction is incorrect—plants release less carbon dioxide into the air than they take in. Was the failed experiment useful in advancing science? Why or why not?

Yes, it showed that some of the CO2 isn’t released back out. This can help with future mathematical calculations
