Let the age of Cal = x.

Then the age of Cal's mother = x+24.

The age of Cal after 9 years=x+9

The age of Cal's mother after 9 years=(x+24)+9=x+33.

The sum of ages of Cal and his mother after 9 years will be,

\begin{gathered} S=(x+9)+(x+33) \\ =2x+42 \end{gathered}

Now according to question,

\begin{gathered} 2x+42=50 \\ 2x=50-42 \\ 2x=8 \\ x=(8)/(2) \\ x=4 \end{gathered}

Thus, the required age of Cal is 4 years.
