y^(2x)-y^x-20

To factor:

1. Write the second term as a difference of two terms with coefficients that when you add it be equal to -1 and when you multiplied be equal to -20:

=y^(2x)+4y^x-5y^x-20

2. Factor by grouping:

First two terms: y^x as common factor:

=y^x(y^x+4)-5y^x-20

Last two terms: -5 as common factor:

=y^x(y^x+4)-5(y^x+4)

3. Factor (y^x +4) as common factor:

=(y^x+4)(y^x-5)

Then, the given function completely factor is:

y^(2x)-y^x-20=(y^x+4)(y^x-5)
