(a). The answer already presented for part (a) is correct.

(b). In order to solve this question, we need to observe the histogram. We see that between 12.5% and 22.5% there are: half of a bar, then a whole bar, then half o another bar. This means that the width of 2 whole bars is:

22.5% - 12.5% = 10%

Then, the width of each bar is

(10%)/2 = 5%

Now, since the midpoint of the third bar is located at 22.5%, this means it goes from 20% to 25%.

And, using the same thought, we can identify that the eighth bar goes from 45% to 50%.

Thus, the states that had their percentage between 20% and 50% are represented from the third to the eighth bars.

Therefore, the number of states in this category is the sum of the heights (frequencies) of each of those bars:

17 + 15 + 8 + 2 + 4 + 4 = 32 + 10 + 8 = 42 + 8 = 50

Answer: 50
