Metric countries rate the fuel efficiency of a car by the number of liters of gasoline required to drive 100 kilometers. If a car takes 15 liters per 100 kilometers, what is its efficiency in miles per gallon? Use the conversions 1gal=3.7854 L and 1 mile = 1.6 km

First we calculate the efficiency in liters over kilometers so:

(100)/(15)\frac{\operatorname{km}}{lt}=6.66\frac{\operatorname{km}}{lt}

Now we can convert the units like

6.66\frac{\operatorname{km}}{lt}\cdot(3.7854)/(1)\frac{lt}{\text{gal}}\cdot(1)/(1.6)\frac{\text{miles}}{\operatorname{km}}=15.75\frac{\text{miles}}{\text{gal}}\approx15.8(miles)/(gal)
