We need to solve the next system of equations by using elimination:

1) x + 4y = 10

2) x -+7y = 16

Subtract both equations:

x + 4y = 10

-

( x - 7y = 16)

------------------------

x-x + (4y-7y) = 10-16

0 -3y = -6

Solve for y

-3y = -6

Divide both sides by -3

-3y/ -3 = -6/-3

Then:

y = 2

Now, replace this y-value on the first equation:

1) x + 4y = 10

x + 4(2) = 10

x + 8 = 10

Solve the equation for x:

Subtract both sides by 8

x + 8 -8 = 10 -8

x = 2

Therefore, x =2 and y =2
