The ball is undergoing a free fall. Thus there is no initial velocity and the acceleration is accelearation due to gravity.

By the equation of kinematics,


\begin{gathered} h=ut+(1)/(2)gt^2 \\ \Rightarrow9.4=0+(1)/(2)*9.8t^2 \\ \Rightarrow t=1.38\text{ s} \end{gathered}

The time taken is 1.38 s
