In the quadrilateral shown, the diagonal FH is divided at the point J into line segments FJ and JH.

The lines FJ and JH are bisected by the line segment EG.

Hence, line FJ equals line JH. Therefore;

\begin{gathered} FJ=JH \\ 3x-10=8x-40 \\ \text{Collect all like terms,} \\ -10+40=8x-3x \\ 30=5x \\ \text{Divide both sides by 5} \\ 6=x \end{gathered}

The answer is x = 6
