Quadratic function is a function that can be described by an equation of the form y = ax² + bx + c, where a ≠ 0.

In a quadratic function, the greatest power of the variable x is 2.

For the function y = x³

\begin{gathered} \text{ the greatest power of the variable }x\text{ is }3 \\ \text{ Therefore, the function }y=x^3\text{ is not a quadratic function.} \end{gathered}

For the function y = x²

\begin{gathered} \text{ the greatest power of the variable }x\text{ is }2 \\ a=1\\e0,b=0,c=0 \\ \text{ Hence, } \\ y=x^2\text{ is a quadratic function} \end{gathered}

y = x³ is not a quadratic function

y = x² is a quadratic function
