A school sold 51 less children’s tickets than

adult tickets for the school play. Adult

tickets cost $1.25 and children’s tickets

cost $0.75. A total of $129.75 was taken

in. How many of each kind were sold?

Given:

The school sold 51 less children's ticket

Adult costs $1.25 and children’s tickets cost $0.75

A total of $129.75 was taken in

Each kind of ticket sold is calculated,

Solution:

We are considering the ticket costs,

1.25x + 0.75 (x-51) = 129.75

Changing the terms from decimals to whole numbers,

125x + 75 (x-51) = 12975

125x + 75x - 3825 = 12975

200x - 3825 = 12975

200x = 16800

x = 16800/200

x = 84

So, 84 adult tickets were sold.
