It can be seen from the diagram that the side length of each small square is 1 unit.

Hence, the length and width of the shaded rectangle, respectively are l=3 and w=2.

Recall the formula for the area of a rectangle with length, l and width, w:


A=l* w

Substitute l=3 and w=2 into the area formula:


A=3*2=6\text{ square units.}

Hence, the area of the shaded rectangle is 6 square units.

The Perimeter of a rectangle is:


P=2(l+w)

Substitute l=3 and w=2 into the formula:


P=2(3+2)=2(5)=10\text{ units}

Answer:

The area is 6 square units.

The perimeter is 10 units.
