Answer:

The equation I came up with to solve this problem was 12 - x = 5(x +4). By writing my equation that way am I really saying "five times the SUM of a number and 4"? Instead, should the equation be 12 - x = 5x + 4, because the problem reads "fives times the number INCREASED by four

Explanation:

x-12=5x+4

-4x=16

x=-4
