Oh, we are supposed to find the general equation of the slope. The idea behind the slope is to measure the tilt of the line that passes through both points. That's a general idea...

Now, if we want to measure a tilt, we should expect a quotient (or a fraction). Precisely, the slope is


(d-b)/(c-a)

It is saying us how is changing the second component (where belong d and b) in respect of the first component (where belong c and a)
