The area of the shaded triangle is equal to:

A=(1)/(2)bh

the base of the shaded triangle is 4 in and the height is 5 in, then:

\begin{gathered} A=(1)/(2)(4)(5) \\ =(1)/(2)\cdot20 \\ =10 \end{gathered}

Therefore the shaded area is 10 squared inches.
