Father = F

Jay = J

Equations

F = 2J

2/3 F = J + 20

2/3F - 20 = J

Solve for F by substitution

F = 2(2/3 F - 20)

F = 4/3 F - 20

20 = 4/3 F - F

20 = 1/3 F

F = 20*3

F = 60 years old

Calculate Jay's age

F = 2J

60 = 2J

60/2 = J

J = 30

Jay's age = 30 years
