The polynomial can be factored as

x^2-4=(x+2)(x-2)

In fact, any polynomial of the form x^2-b^2 can be factored as

x^2-b^2=(x+b)(x-b)

Back to our polynomial, we see that its zeros are

x=2

and

x=-2
