SLOPE CALCULATION

The formula to calculate the slope of a line is given to be:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

The points on the line are labeled as shown below:

The coordinates of the points are given to be:

\begin{gathered} 1\Rightarrow(x_1,y_1)=(-4,-1) \\ 2\Rightarrow(x_2,y_2)=(-1,-4) \end{gathered}

Therefore, the slope can be calculated to be:

m=(-4-(-1))/(-1-(-4))=(-4+1)/(-1+4)=-(3)/(3)=-1

Therefore, the slope is calculated to be -1.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SLOPE

Slopes come in 4 different types: negative, positive, zero, and undefined.

The slope calculated is a NEGATIVE SLOPE.
