you have five friends and go to lunch. You plan to split the bill evenly, and you plan to leave a 15% tip. The bill is $55.50 before the tip. Which is the closest to the amount each person will pay for the meal, including tax?

The closest to the amount each person will pay for the meal including the tax is $10.64

Firstly, we will need to calculate the total bill including the tip

Mathematically, this will be;

\begin{gathered} 55.50\text{ + 15\% of \$55.50} \\ We\text{ have;} \\ \\ 55.50\text{ + (}(15)/(100)\text{ }*\text{ 55.50)} \\ \\ =\text{ 55.50 + 8.325 = \$63.825} \end{gathered}

So the amount that each will pay will be the division of the total amount including the tip by the total number of persons which is 6 in this case (you plus 5 friends)

So the individual bill will be;

\begin{gathered} (63.825)/(6)\text{ = \$10.6375} \\ \\ \text{This is closest to \$10.64} \end{gathered}
