Notice that we can find the measure of the base using the pythagorean theorem. Let 'x' be the length of the base, then, we have the following:


\begin{gathered} x=\sqrt[]{(17.3)^2-(16.5)^2}=\sqrt[]{299.29-272.25}=\sqrt[]{27.04}=5.2 \\ \Rightarrow x=5.2ft \end{gathered}

now that we have that the length of the base is x = 5.2ft and the height of the triangle is 16.5ft, we can find the area:


\begin{gathered} A=(5.2\cdot16.5)/(2)=(85.8)/(2)=42.9 \\ \Rightarrow A=42.9ft^2 \end{gathered}

therefore, the area of the triangle is 42.9ft^2
