y = - x + 5 → (2)

substitute y = 2x - 7 into (2)

2x - 7 = - x + 5 ( add x to both sides )

3x - 7 = 5 ( add 7 to both sides )

3x = 12 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 4

substitute x = 4 into either of the 2 equations

substituting into (2)

y = - 4 + 5 = 1

solution is (4, 1 )
