Matt is planning his spring flower garden. He wants to plant tulip and daffodil bulbs. He will plant 8 times as many daffodil bulbs as tulip bulbs. If he wants to plant 270 bulbs, how many tulip bulbs and how many daffodil bulbs should he plant?

(D)affodil = 240
(T)ulip = 30

D = 8 x T
D + T = 270

8T + T = 270
9T = 270
270 divided by 9 = 30
T = 30
30 x 8 = 240
D = 240

(Add to check, 30 + 240 = 270

divide 270 and 9- and you will get thirty. there are going to be 30 tulip bulbs and 240 daffodil bulbs.
