Jazlene spent 2 more minutes on her math homework than Denise.

a) We will use the leter "J" to represent Jazlene and the letter "D" to represent Denise. Since Jazlene spent 2 more minutes than Denise, then if we sum the time Denise spent with 2, we should have the time Jazlene spent studying. This is shown below:


J=D+2

b) Now we have to represent the time Denise spent studying. This is the reverse, since Jalene studied more, we need to subtract two from the time Jalene studied. This is done below:


D=J-2

c) If Denise worked for 14 minutes, we need to replace D with 14 on the first expression.

Jalene studied 16 minutes.
