STEP 1: Identify and Set up

We have two rectangular areas to resolve and to go about it, we need to find the different areas to add and subtract where required.

Firstly, we need the area of the window, we thus use its dimensions to get that.

Next, we need the area of the wall excluding the window. We also get the area of the wall and subtract the area of the window from it to get our target area.

The area is generally gotten to be: Length x breadth

STEP 2: Execute

Area of the window where

Length, l = 2ft and breadth, b = 18in.

Therefore, its area is:

\begin{gathered} 18^(\doubleprime)\text{ = 18 inches = (}\frac{\text{18}}{12})\text{ ft} \\ 2*(18)/(12)=3ft^2 \end{gathered}

The area of the wall to be painted (shaded part) is the area of the whole wall minus the area of the window. Where the length of wall = 8ft and breadth = 6 ft.

The area of the total wall (including the window) is then

8*6=48ft^2

Therefore, the area of the shaded part is:

48-3=45ft^2

Therefore, window area = 3 sq ft,

Area of shaded part = 45 sq ft
