The area of the rectangle is

\begin{gathered} A_R=4*3 \\ A_R=12\operatorname{cm} \end{gathered}

On the other hand, the area of the right triangle is

\begin{gathered} A_T=(1)/(2)(4.2)(4) \\ A_T=4.2*2 \\ A_T=8.4\operatorname{cm} \end{gathered}

Then, the difference in their areas is

\begin{gathered} A_R-A_T=12-8.4_{} \\ A_R-A_T=3.6\operatorname{cm} \end{gathered}

so, the answer is option C.
