Let us write out the formula for discriminant,

D=b^2-4ac

Let us write out the general quadratic equation,

ax^2+bx+c=0

Let us write out the given equation,

x^2+11x-10=0

Comparing the two equations, and getting the values for a, b and c.

\begin{gathered} a=1 \\ b=11 \\ c=-10 \end{gathered}

Let us now solve for the discriminant,

\begin{gathered} D=11^2-4(1)(-10) \\ D=121+40 \\ D=161 \end{gathered}

Since the discriminant is positive, the quadratic has two real solutions.
