Looking the figure

we have that

each space in the number line represents 1 unit

so

Plot in the number line the points 7 and -7

see the figure below

The distance from each point to zero is equal to 7 units

The distance between -7 and 7 is equal to

d=7-(-7)=7+7=14 units

with the absolute


\begin{gathered} \left|-7-7\right| \\ \lvert-14\rvert=14 \end{gathered}

with the absolute value is the same the operation

(-7-7) or (7-(-7)) --------> the result is always a positive value (14)

Verify the result

In the number line, there are 14 spaces between -7 and 7

that means

The distance is 14 units
